Can you tell me about PlayCV?

PlayCV is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization #87-1612445 whose mission is to bring fun and enriching after-school classes, programs, camps and activities to TK - 8th grade students in our community.

We strive to bring enrichment programs that both further and introduce subject matters of interest. Our intention is to foster team and individual growth while developing social interactions.

Our success lies in leveraging our community's strengths and talents to the greatest extent possible. We recruit local experts in their fields, count on the most caring community members, and support our local businesses. None of this is possible without the support of our community.

PlayCV is Where Youth Shine. Our events showcase the achievements of our students to family and friends.

We can't wait to see you there!

Can you tell me about what happens at PlayCV?

We offer three different types of programs; The Full P.L.A.Y., Enrichment Classes, and Summer Camps. The Full P.L.A.Y. is essentially a school-year long program that runs every day that school is open. Enrichment Classes are an a-la-carte offering of classes that typically lasts one hour on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday in 8 to 10-week long sessions. Summer Camps are Monday - Friday day camps offered as half ( AM or PM) or full days.

Our after school programs begin in the multi-purpose room or cafeteria where the children are served a snack provided by the district. Then they're off to their respective programs.

Students enrolled in The Full P.L.A.Y. have classes and activities throughout the week. For a list of the various Enrichment Classes that are available each session, please see our course catalog.

How are PlayCV instructors and staff selected?

Everyone who joins the PlayCV program goes through an extensive background check and is cleared through the Castro Valley Unified School District.

What are PlayCV's safety procedures?

At PlayCV, the safety and well-being of every student is at the heart of everything we do. As an on-campus after-school program, we follow strict safety protocols to ensure a secure and supportive environment for all students.

  • Thorough Background Checks—Before being hired, all employees undergo comprehensive background screenings, including DOJ and FBI live scan fingerprinting.
  • Training - Every team member is trained annually to recognize and report concerns to the appropriate authorities (Mandated Reporter Training) and receives ongoing training in Standards for Responding to Suspected Abuse or Neglect or Suspicious or Inappropriate Conduct (SAM) and Nonviolent Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI). Team members also participate in regular refresher courses on PlayCV and CVUSD policies and procedures to ensure consistency, compliance, and best practices.
  • Supervised Spaces ––Team members are always present, and no child is left unsupervised at any time.
  • Secure Campus Access – All PlayCV programs operate on school campuses, providing familiar and monitored environments. Gates remain closed and secured during program hours to prevent unauthorized access. No one, aside from authorized personnel who have completed the required background checks, is allowed unescorted in program spaces, with the exception of parents/guardians during student pick-up. Under no circumstances are Team Members permitted to meet alone with a child behind a closed door in an unsupervised area.
  • Strict Restroom Policies – Team members do not enter student restrooms and use only designated adult facilities.
  • Emergency Preparedness – PlayCV follows school-site safety protocols, including emergency drills and clear response plans.
  • Student Support and Inclusion – We ensure all team members are made aware of individual student needs, such as severe allergies, medical conditions, or required accommodations. Our Inclusion Team provides ongoing support to our team members to help meet the needs of all students to the best of our ability.
  • Site Visits and Inspections - We conduct regular site reviews to ensure program quality, safety, and compliance. In addition, PlayCV leadership performs continuous unannounced visits to observe program operations. We are committed to creating a safe, enriching space where students can learn, play, and grow with confidence.

If you have any questions about our safety policies, please contact us at info@playcv.org, or by phone/text at (510) 900-4220.

What is the Student to Instructor ratio in PlayCV's programs?

PlayCV ensures a ratio of one (1) instructor for every twenty (20) students. For TK and Kindergarten, the ratio is one (1) instructor for every ten (10) students.

What's the difference between PlayCV and other extended daycare services?

PlayCV is not an extended daycare service. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing enrichment classes and activities to Castro Valley schools. At the heart of everything we do is the goal of bringing back a little fun, to introduce topics not normally available at our schools, and to provide more diverse social engagement opportunities.
